I'll say right now that I LOVE riding bikes with Kaleb. We can keep up with each other, he pushes me to ride harder and I'd like to think I push him a little bit too. We stop and talk about random bs and explore, it's all around an excellent time. I've never had a bad time biking with him. evar. So today, we took a pretty epic bike ride I'd say. (although it by far does not exceed our downtown to Northgate ride by any means!)
I started out on 1st ave where I work, in Belltown. (for those who may be out of Seattle, it's about 7 or 8 blocks outside of downtown proper.) I rode up into lower Queen Anne, then down mercer onto 15th, where I met up with Kaleb at Gilman Rd. From there we went across the Ballard Bridge (Which by the way terrifies me because the path is so narrow. I watched Kaleb ride with no hands or reaching around into his backpack while pedaling, etc. it terrified meeeeee!!!) We went to Second Ascent and drooled over bike parts and fantasized about getting matching jerseys and shorts to make a sort-of bicycling team. Ha ha ha!
After we left the bike shop, we went to Walgreens to get some sunscreen for our faces and arms, then back over the Ballard Bridge and to the bike / walking path along the Puget Sound. Holy shit, I never knew how beautiful this area was. It definitely does not receive enough attention. On a day like today, it was nothing short of miraculous. Naked men everywhere, (okay, semi naked) people on their cell phones on their bikes, skate boarders, and a small child who decided to break away from her mother and dart across the bike path as three of us on bikes. (me, Kaleb, and some other guy who was FLYING) The mother shrieked and snatched the baby up just before the man on the bike hit it (He would've stopped in time... to not kill the baby anyway.) and we kept riding. It was sort of funny how weak some mothers parenting skills/instincts are. She was just letting her baby run around on a BIKE PATH. wtf?
Anyway, then we turned around and went back to W. Dravus st., Kaleb went to work, and I kept riding on my normal path around Queen Anne. (see map 3.) I got home at around 4:50pm (I left work at about 2:15pm) and I traveled approximately 19 miles. It felt amazing!!! I still feel amazing. Except I need a massage. REAL. REAL BAD. like, woah.Holy shit. my shoulders are a cold mess. as in, they used to be a hot mess but they've been a mess for so long they've cooled off and are cold now.
I'm super excited also because Carla and Kiersten are coming over for Teriyaki and then perhaps we're meeting up with Stuart later for some party time excellence!!!
I feeeeel good. :)
